What do I have?

I'm so frustrated -- I'm 55 and at age 43 I put on 80 pounds in the span of 2 years and, to this day, have not been able to lose it (or any part of it). I've been to every "ologist", most twice. All my bloodwork comes back perfectly normal, yet if you look up hypothyroidism, I'm a classic case. Over the years, other symptoms have emerged - muscle pain on exertion, extreme fatigue and most recently, severe heat intolerance. No doctor can figure out what's going on. This heat intolerance is quite disturbing -- I have the AC set on 68 and am freezing my poor husband out. Anything above 72 causes me to perspire profusely. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing all this? I'm so very frustrated, especially about the inability to lose the weight. I'm 5'8" and my normal weight was about 145-150 so I'm not talking about losing weight to become a stick -- I just want to be myself again. Thanks so much for listening.

Hi and welcome to the board!
Yes, it is possible to have the symptoms way into post menopause.
Wow -- you're amazing. Thank you so much and I'll come over to the menopause board as soon as I can. The heat intolerance isn't hot flashes or night sweats -- I've had those and know how that feels. This is constant -- it's like my entire body has turned on itself. My mother had a hysterectomy at 46 due to fibroid bleeding so I don't have anything with which to compare my symptoms. She died at 71 in 1994 so I can't even ask her anything.
I have to admit that the studies did scare me. I've had cysts removed from my breast but they've been benign. When I did have periods, they were very heavy with clotting. I still have fibroids and I've had two D&Cs for thickened uterine lining. I'll post on the menopause site asap. Thanks again.
