Hi Everyone,
I thank you for the replies. When I first went to the doctor she was more concerned with my blood pressure. It was something like 180/130. She gave me meds to take right then. She said really she didn't want to diagnose me with diabetes at the time, but my mother called her and she told my mom that I did I have it. I know that I am at risk. Besides being overweight I have a family history of both diabetes and high blood pressure. Everyone of my aunts and uncles on my dad's side has it including my dad, who is a thin man. The doctor told me to eat right and loose 20 lbs and I would be fine. I did so for about a month. I even lost weight and everyone was saying how I looked thinner, but I fell off.
I know people have their addictions and while I'm fond of sweets my addiction is juice. It's crazy, but I promise I get grumpy if I don't drink it and I'll think about all day until I can drink it, but I have slacked up. I only had 2 cups of juice yesterday where normal I may have had 10. I've been drinking more water and now I'm going to focus on diet also. I think I have no will power so I will leave my money and debit cards at home so even if I'm tempted to go out and eat I won't be able. At work is where I get my junk. The first the change in diet wasn't hard. I actually felt better physically.

Leona, I completely understand your desire for juices.
Hi Catcount,
Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. Thank you for posting your experience and how you handled it. Orange juice was the one thing that I truly missed when I became diabetic. At the time we didn't know as much about insulin resistance as we do now and so I was told to not have any fruit with breakfast. Once in a very great while I will have a 4 ounce glass of orange juice and my does it taste good but it really does a number on my blood sugar so I don't do it very often.
I eat a variety of fruits and normally have a snack in the morning of fruit and then my dessert with dinner is a fruit. I find that if I don't eat my fruit my sweet tooth raises its ugly head and I want anything that I am not supposed to have. I carb count and also have a problem with my blood sugar dropping too low before lunch so my having a small snack helps a lot.
I hope you will continue to post and as I usually say, will pull up a chair and join our conversation. Please tell us about yourself so that we can get to know you.
I guess I was fortunate in some ways - a history of acid reflux (minor but annoying level) precluded OJ in the mornings for years before my type 2 dx. I could have some mid day (with lunch or a small snack) but the acid (even low acid types) was too much. So I just skipped it. BUT I did love other juices. I think that's probably one of the things I miss most - having something besides water, unsweetened iced tea/hot tea, or almond milk (our preference over dairy for the cholesterol/fat content). I tried adding 2 oz (measured two ounces) of pomegranate juice, no sugar added, with breakfast because it's supposed to be a "powerhouse" good thing. Oy did that kill my glucose results. So, no more juice for me.
I find, too, that work is the *easiest* place for me to maintain good control because all I can eat is what I bring with me - no vending machines, soda machines, catered cafeteria. There's a "lunch truck" that comes every day morning and noon but I don't LIKE most of what they have (except the pizza because that's from a local pizza place) so it's pretty easy to not muck up too badly (and at $2 per slice of pizza, that's a rarity too).
When I'm home and I've got the whole kitchen available, it's much harder for me to not "just have one" of this or that. Here at work, I have my stash of graham crackers, nut butter, and such helpful snacks, plus an endless supply of cold, filtered, tasty water from the water cooler.
