I just love your sunflower! It is so cute.

It has not been my experiece with insulin that it makes me moody or anything like that. But I do have probems with dropping my blood sugar rapidly and that is a side effect of the insulin. The other side effect that I have noticed is the weight gain around the waist. When I first started taking insulin I gave myself the shots there for quite a while before I realized the fat distribution that was occurring. Now I try to give my shots lower on my abdomen and sometimes on the top of my legs.

Are you feeling okay other than being moody?

Is taking insulin a new experience for you? How much are you taking? What are your blood glucose levels at the times you are feeling irritable, or is it all the time? I get grouchy and feel miserable all day if my blood sugars are too low in the morning, so in general I try not to let levels go too low. (Senior citizens are usually advised not to go too low because of the dangers of falling.)

Twenty years ago before I started seeing my current doctor my blood sugars were totally out of control despite my best efforts with Micronase (which made my tummy balloon as if I had a tumor, despite the fact that I had lost weight to nearly normal,

Many people with diabetes also suffer from depression and often that depression has not been properly diagnosed or treated.

High blood sugars seem to trigger episodes of depression for me - particularly when I think I have been eating properly and taking correct amount of insulin, but blood sugars are high anyway.

I have read that diabetes itself can cause moodiness, and I agree. Fortunately, I'm an "up" person, so i detest when moodiness visits me, even though it is rather mild. I inject Lantus once a day. I Use four major areas, each with four actual injection sites that I rotate; so each site is used only about twice each month. I number them A 1,2,3,4 ; B 1,2 3 etc. The four major areas are: A) right lower stomach; B) right upper (front outer) thigh; C) left thigh, and D) left lower stomach. AS stated, each area has four different injection sites. The needle seldom bothers me: more frequently, I sense the coldness of the insulin since it is kept refrigerated (not in the freezer). (added thought. I exercise most days which gives me a triple benefit: 1) better diabetes control, 2) better physical condition, and very importantly, 3) an upbeat PMA (Positive Mental Attitude).....
