I was just wondering...when I test my BS I sometimes get black and blue marks.  I rotate using 1 finger per day...I stick the sides and the middle of the pad.  Occasionally I will look at my finger later and I have a black and blue spot (it usually lasts 1-2 days)....my meter says I can use the forearm or the base of the thumb but not for testing after meals  which is when I basically test.

Just curious and wondered if this happens to anyone else and what would cause it.

Since your pen and lancets are different from mine, and I probably hold mine differently, you will probably have to experiment. I am consistent in position when I put in the lancet (curved slightly toward the left, my release button side) but when I press the release button with my thumb, I have turned it in my hand nearly a half turn, so it is curving more to the right.

For a light bit of vitamin C for the punctured fingertip, you just need to put a drop of water on the surface and rub your finger on it . You can save the tablet and wet it again the next time. For a paste, I put it in a teeny glass (I keep a little shot glass handy in the bathroom drawer) with more water and let it get mushy before spreading it over the area. I read about topical vitamin C application in Prevention magazine years ago. I had a rash on my tummy that didn’t want to go away and made an appointment with my skin doctor. By appointment time, I had read about the vitamin C, tried it, and the rash had nicely gone away, but I kept the appointment because I had something else he could check out and also wanted to tell him about the vitamin C. (I wonder if he has passed it on; he seemed interested. I haven't had to go see him again.)

I would agree with the other respondents about the depth of the lancet.
