I personally test 4 times a day but I will sometimes increase that if I am not feeling well with a cold or the flu.

Steve,

I test 5 times per day per doctor's orders. AM to see whether I have been dawning, in the middle of the morning to see if my blood sugar has dropped too much, before lunch because this is when I have a really bad time with hypoglycemia, in the afternoon to see if my blood sugar is high enough to go to the gym and then at bedtime. Sometimes I also test 2 hours after eating to see how I am doing but this really isn't a valid test for me because I am also on Symlin and that delays absorption of carbs for 3 hours. My endo wants me to take half my dose of starlix to see if that will control my blood sugar. What she would actually like is for me to come off the starlix. The Januvia is doing a wonderful job of helping to control my blood sugar and also allow me to lose more weight. I take 5 meds for my diabetes and it would be nice if I could stop one of them! Actually we are trying to keep me from having to take long and short acting insulin.

Have you had probkems with weight gain on the Lantus?

I test without fail when I get up in the mornings, before I eat.

I have had no weight gain with Lantus at all. I've been using it for about 6 months now and my weight stays pretty level. It has worked wonders for me.

When I found out I was diabetic, I adhered to the testing regime of as many tests a day needed to monitor what was happening to oneself. As time progressed I began to understand what affected me and I was able to test on an needed basis, or when my wife insisted that she wanted to know. I'v just recently changed my Lantus shots from 1 per day to 2, one am the other pm and split the single dosage. I now test my BFS in the

I take my Lantus shots twice a day as well. My doctor recommended it because, even though they say it is a 24 hr release, there is a tail off at some point.

It has worked better for me to take twice a day and I maintain more consistent blood sugar levels
