New here...fluctuating levels

Hi Everyone! :-) Last Thursday, I had my first visit with a new doctor (we just moved to a new state), and he ran full bloodwork on me. On Friday, I received a call from the nurse saying that all of my test results came back perfect EXCEPT my blood glucose level. Well, diabetes (type 2) runs in my Mom's family...everyone has it--my Mom, her brothers and sisters, female cousins, my deceased Grandmother, my Great-Grandfather, etc. So I naturally assumed that my level was high and that I probably had diabetes myself. It wouldn't have surprised me....I'm 5'4" and 295 pounds. BUT No....the nurse explained that they wanted my fasting level to be between 60 and 100, and mine was 34! Ack! I asked how that could be, because I felt fine that day. Sure, I hadn't eaten between 7pm the night before my appointment and when the bloodwork was taken at 11:30am the following day, but I felt fine. No jitters, no weakness, no feelings that anything was "off".
So they had me come in on Monday of this week to repeat the glucose blood test. They told me to eat before I came in. So I had a bowl of grape-nuts cereal with 2% milk and a glass of Orange Juice. Then I put on my shoes and headed out to get my test done. Today (Tuesday) they called to tell me that my non-fasting (post high carb/sugar breakfast) was 147, and they're not happy with that either.
At this point, they figure that one of the tests was probably wrong, and they are guessing it might be the first one, although the lab said they ran the test twice and got the result of 34 both times.
So tomorrow I'm going in again for another round of bloodwork, this time fasting again.
I just don't know what to think. Am I hypoglycemic....or diabetic...or borderline...? Or is there some sort of flukey test results being given from the lab, and I'm perfectly within normal levels. It's just boggling my mind tonight.
Has anyone had their levels go fluctuate like this? Anyone had their sugar go as low as 34 (or thereabouts) without feeling any changes in their body or how they felt?
Thanks!
Patty

Hi Patty and welcome to the board!
Patty,
When I was first questioned about the possibility of my being a type 2 diabetic, I bought "The Sugar Solution" and went on that for 3 months.
Hi Patty,
Welcome to the board. I don't believe the 34 either. Having just witnessed my husband with a 37, I would be highly surprised if that test was valid. I believe the 147 more because of your family history and weight. In families that have so much diabetes it is because of a resessive gene on the mother's side of the family and there is almost nothing you can do to avoid becoming diabetic. 60 is too low for a fasting level also. Most doctors use 80-100 in non-diabetics. In diabetics they allow it to go as high as 110. There is no such thing as borderline diabetes. You either have it or you don't.
I hope they will run an A1C as well as repeating the BS. Did you have cholesterol and lipids run also?
While you need to lose a huge amount of weight to get your weight in the normal level, a modest loss of 15-20 pounds will go a long way towards getting your blood sugar back into the normal level.
Please post your results and we will try to help you understand what is going on.
