Byetta causes pancreas risk?

News on Byetta.... I tried to find this info here at iVillage and at other places on the web. There are few so far. However though what I have read indicates that the manufacturers have added this possibility on the side effects list last year, I thought those using Byetta or thinking about it should be aware of this. As one article I read said, that anyone using this should talk to their drs.
"The FDA has this advice for patients taking Byetta: Seek medical care promptly if you experience unexplained severe abdominal pain with or without nausea and vomiting."

this what i found on webmd
That is about what I found in the link I have...
Yes I got an alert from Medscape this morning that "FDA Warns of Potential Link Between Byetta and Pancreatitis." I am on Byetta 5 mcgs and have never been able to go up to the 10 (7 of the pancreatitis cases corresponded with increases in twice daily dosing from 5 to 10 mcgs). I am thinking this is what may have happened to me. I became deathly ill and unable to eat and would have vomited if I had not have phenergan. However, I was also bottoming out down into the 60s on the 10 mcgs so my doc and I decided it was simply too strong for me.
I am still on the 5 mcgs and doing fine so I am not worried about it. I know that I will probably never be able to tolerate the 10 mcgs though...
My DH is on the 10 and has never had any ill side effects.
The fallout was bound to happen post marketing. It is so new and there have been no long-term studies as others have pointed out. The rush is of course because we are in the midst of a diabetic epidemic and people are dying so they rush drugs to the market in hopes of both saving lives and making money.

It's not really all that disappointing for me. Acute pancreitis is no fun but generally it goes away and people are fine. It's not like they have found it increases the risk of heart failure!
Glad the weight is coming off.
The rule is to take all meds 1 hour before or 3 hours after the shot.
