My diabetic medicine is making me ache all over my body and so I stop taking it. What is the best diabetic medicine that helps with little or no side effects. I am losing weight I know that helps my diabetes. Also does Diet soda's hurt you in any way cause I drink Diet Pepsi. The medicine I take is Glyburide/Metformin that is making me ache all over. I could I have gotten The diabetes from the Zyprexa I took for a month or two. Cause before that I had no Type Two Diabetes and I was very healthy. But I did weigh 292 and now I weigh 265. My weight problem is I like to sack instead of eating a big meal. I do not like to eat a big breakfast or have 6 small meals a day. I want eat twice a day. It hard for me to excercise cause of my asthma too. So what could help me. My blood sugar runs in to 200-300 hundreds in the mornings. I do not want this blood sugar problems anymore. I have been stressed out alot these past two weeks cause of problem with a ex-friend.

Hi Nikki,

Never ever stop your diabetic meds without taking to your doctor. Diabetes isn't a disease that you can mess around with. There are real complications with diabetes. That being said it is a disease that you can manage and live an absolutely normal life with most of the time.

Losing weight is the first thing that will help and could get your diabetes under control where you wouldn't need to take medications. You didn't say how long you had been on the medication but it takes about 2 weeks for your body to become used to the metformin in your combination pill. I am sure the Zyprexa hasn't helped either as the psych meds cause weight gain and increased blood sugars.

On top of that, because your diabetes isn't under good control yet, I am sure you don't feel well.

Have you been to any diabetic education classes yet? Did you see a dietitian for meal planning help? You need to have both of these things as it is really important in helping you manage your disease.

So please call your doctor in the morning and let us know what the doctor suggests. I will be interested in what they suggest. In the meantime, pull up a chair and join our conversation. We are here to help as much as we can. We celebrate successes, lament failures and give gentle shoves when necessary.

Nikki,

I am sorry if I mis-read your message. I thought you were a brand new diabetic, overwhelmed with all the information that you get at that time. I didn't realize that you had been diabetic for 3 years.

You ask for a medication suggestion, and while I am a nurse and not a physician, I suggest that you talk to your doctor about Januvia. Januvia is the oral version of Byetta and it doesn't seem to have side effects. It hasn't been on the market that long and so it is possible that there are side effects which haven't been seen yet.

Since your blood sugar is so high in the mornings, it is obvious that you have insulin resistance. The easiest way to break down insulin resistance is with exercise. It is recommended that diabetics get 150 minutes of exercise per week. That can be walking or like me going to Curves. Whatever you enjoy doing and can do consistently is what you need to do.

What medication did your doctor suggest for you?
