Hi everybody,
Is it normal for my bs to be high in the am before I eat breakfast and take my meds? This am it was 200, but later it was 98. What causes such flucuations? What is the high and low that you need to worry about? I'm feeling really good...compared to last week when I found out I have this. I guess now that I know what "bad" feels like, that would be one way to tell if it's too high?
Thank you,
Terry

For some folks, the liver goes into overdrive overnight and dumps a bunch of glucose which then hits insulin resistance and just hangs out in the bloodstream instead of being absorbed into the cells.
Generally speaking, anything below about 90 is a concern and anything above 160 is High as a max number - below 110 is the target for pre-meal, below 140 is the target post-meal, and my endo said to keep it below 160 before bed.
I'm not sure what meds you're on but with my dr's okay, I'm taking my metformin (just on one dose per day) before bed instead of earlier in the day (with dinner or in the morning). That, combined with exercise (to reduce insulin resistance and weight) seems to be getting my a.m. fasting number down to within striking distance of the target.

Hi Deb,
I'm on Metformin 850mg twice a day, Glipizide 5mg twice a day, as well as one 81mg aspirin once a day.
higher morning numbers can also indicate definite insulin resistance and one solution for that IS exercise!!!
Terry,
What meds are you on?
Activity and meds can be the cause of the 98. It depends upon when it occurs. Please givve me a little more information.

Terry,
I wouldn't worry about your 98. You are still not on the maximum dose of metformin. Are your cataracts diabetes related or age related? Are they ripe for surgery? My husband has cataracts but they aren't diabetes related and they aren't ready for surgery either.
I hope things settle down for you real soon.
Thank you for the info.
Thank you very much.
