I hope your education sessions help. Eating for diabetics has changed and it is good to tune up your knowledge. You could also talk to your doctor about Januvia or Byetta. They might help you jump start your weight loss and control your blood sugar.
Eleven months ago I weighed close to 200 pounds. I weight about 140 and still losing. It should take me another 6 months to reach what is considered ideal and for me that will make me very thin. Losing this weight has NOT improved my diabetes however. It has improved my ability to exercise without getting winded. I also have Fibromyalgia so exertion is always costly in energy reserves. I am tired a lot.
I am really leery of the meds that can result in lows because of the migraines. Then its not just eating but sitting up to eat that can be a challenge. And the Irritible bowel syndrome really messes with any meds that might cause that kind of problems. Actualy the IBS really ticks me sometimes when i get really hungry for salads, and I know from my stomach that it would be stupid to eat them!!
Our clinic suggests visits with the diabetic ed unit either every 6 months or every 12 months. I know i am overdue.
I also know though that when I am exercising more THEN it seems like I do not crave carbs as much!! That really helps balance the increased cravings from the antidepressent. Am really hoping THAT will get me losing again!! One thing I had not been doing much is using the WATP tapes when I am not getting to the Y enough. Am hoping to start doing that more. Doing that will likely make walking outside more productive AND doable for longer periods of time. It does seem weird that I can do 50 minutes or an hour on the elliptical but trying to walk outside that long would be suicidal!! Of coures I always have the arms on the elliptical if I need them. I recently realized the WATP tapes are probably so challenging because, although it starts slow it does speed up to a good clip. So am guessing I need to do it oftener so I can get to the point of doing the 2 mile walk again!!!
I do think it confuses my doctor that my numbers stay so good, when my weight is not nosediving. Sadly the lab tests results were not in the mail today, but I know for sure the total is down to 199 again and the good cholesterol went up at least a little.
No I am not at my ideal weight but I am trying really to eat right and excercise to get to my ideal weight. I am to young to be this over weight. I am only twenty seven. I weigh 265. I want to weigh about 125 cause that is ideal for my body.
If you are not on insulin, you might want to check out Atkins. I use it and so does my diabetic daughter in law. She lost 55 pounds in 6 months and is doing fine. My diabetes is more advanced than hers and my weight loss is 60 pounds in 11 months. I have more problems with carbs than she does. WHINE. :>)
I must confess I probably have never been at my ideal weight since I was maybe about 5-6 years old!!
