Anyone using Acarbose or Meglitol

Is anyone here taking Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors - Acarbose (Precose) or Meglitol (Glyset) - for Type II Diabetes? If so, what kind of Gastrointestinal (GI) side effects are you having, if any?
I have had noticeable diabetes symptoms since 2001. Since then, I've only been using diet and exercise for control. The doctors refuse to treat my diabetes even though I have a number of complications - blind in left eye from glaucoma; increasing number of problems with the right eye, including dull pain/pressure and blurriness; chronic fungal infections (feet) - I've given up trying to get treatment from doctors for this; diabetic colon - IBS symptoms; peripheral neuropathy in legs, feet, arms, and hands; dry, flaky, itchy skin, etc.
Apparently, I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands again, before I'm blind in the right eye. This is the reason I'm doing my own research.
I have heart failure, high blood pressure and Angina, which means I have contraindications for most of the oral diabetes meds. Or, as with Sulfonylureas, I take several meds that will interact with these. The Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors seemed to be OK until I read about the G.I. side effects. I also have Peptic Ulcer Disease, and as mentioned diabetic colon. In other words, I am tempted to try to get this med regardless of the side effects. I take Ranitidine (Zantac) for the ulcers and, now, probiotics for the diabetic colon. I feel these should help with the G.I. side effects from the Acarbose or Meglitol. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank you in advance for your input.
