of diabetes?
I have no family hx of diabetes, however, I did develop Gestational Diabetes very late in my pregnancy - I was off the charts and diet modification did nothing...so I had to do injections 4times/day. After delivery, everything returned to normal...except my weight.
Flash forward three years to today: I am still about twenty pounds overweight, having a hard time squeezing in exercise (but not inactive by any means). In the past couple weeks I have noticed a weird after-taste that seems to linger long after I eat anything sweet at all. I sometimes have a seemingly insatiable appetite, but try to keep my snacking to a minimum (and generally fairly healthy things) and drink lots of water. I don't know that I could differentiate fatigue because I am always on the run and tired. When I ponder what I eat, it does seem carb top-heavy to me. Just wondering if any of this might be related to onset of Type 2?
TIA

I really didn't have any - although in hindsight there were times when I'd get really uncomfortable, clammy, weak, irritable if I didn't eat (like if I got tied up in something and postponed lunch half an hour). I've been seeing an endocrinologist for several years for my thyroid and she just added a fasting serum glucose test to my annual roster of lab work because I'm over 45 and it came back high by a little so she had another one done and that also came back high (again a scant few points above the diagnostic threshhold).
So, I can't help you with your particular situation BUT if you have concerns, talk to your health care professional about getting tested.

Mercyblu,
There are about 10 physical symptoms of diabetes. But that really isn't an issue here. Because you had gestational diabetes you need to be checked to make sure that diabetes hasn't reoccurred. Because you are having symptoms you need to contact your physician and ask for a fasting blood sugar test. This should be part of your annual well-woman checkup. It is usually within the first five years after developing gestational diabetes that it converts to diabetes, type 2. Exercise and weight loss are the keys to keeping this from occurring.
So please contact your doctor and let us know what he or she tells you.
Thank you for your response:)
I understand not wanting to face the possibility.
