I am back home now!

And I am not going wandering for a while! I think I have confused you with my wanderings. I went to Kauai for a week for vacation and came home from there for a few days and back to work for four days. Then my husband had a meeting Honolulu so we left Thursday afternoon with plans to come home on Sunday afternoon.

What happened in the airport was that first the plane had to wait for space to be able to take off and then the engine stopped working. We had to be towed back to the gate and then they couldn't get it repaired so the air line had to put us up for the night. They gave us $15 for dinner and $7 for breakfast. Anyone who has been to Hawaii knows this pay for much! Eating as a diabetic isn't that easy because they eat too many carbs. But I ate very carefully.

Hawaii has someone meet the airplane when there is an emergency. I didn't think about my not having enough meds until this person was gone which is too bad because I could have asked their help in getting the meds that I didn't have with me. Live and learn. What I did was take 1/2 of the meds that I had left and save the remainded for yesterday. I also got as much exercise as I could. I am sure I made my more 10,000 steps!!

You are supposed to use an insulin vial for 28 days but that doesn't mean that the insulin is immediately non-useable. So I was planning on disgarding the vial when I got home which is ultimately what I did but I used the insulin for 29 days.

I learned to take extra syringes with me after I dropped one and couldn't use it. You should have seen my sister and I getting the medicine out of the damaged syringe! So now I have learned to take at least one more day of meds with me just incase I need them. I kept thinking about the poor folks that were on the Jet Blue mess earlier this year and some folks didn't make it home until 5 days later than they were supposed to. In this case, if that had happened to me I was going to start throwing my weight around and insist that they needed to deal with an insulin dependent diabetic. Some people on my flight had small children with them and they demanded to be put on another flight.

So I learned one of life's lessons! They still didn't have that plane repaired when I flew home yesterday. At least our plane emergency occurred on the ground rather than in the air over the ocean. For this I thank my lucky stars.

I hope you never have to experience this. I have had enough of airplane problems this fall so I am staying put for a while.
