HELP - Any Type 1 diabetics had a complete hysterectomy?   How hard is it to control your blood sugars with the HRT????

I am a 38 yr old "Brittle diabetic" (I know, some of you don't agree with this terminology, but that's not why I am here). I have been a diabetic for 32 years, on the insulin pump for 15 years and have endometriosis (thus hysterectomy).  My gut instinct is to not have a "complete hysterectomy" and to have the doc leave an ovary for hormonal purposes.

What are your experiences following a complete hysterectomy?

Hi,

I am a type 2 diabetic who had no choice but to have a complete hysterectomy. When they went in to do a partial hysterectomy they found both ovaries to have cysts and that were bleeding into my abdomen. I was on hormone replacement therapy until about 3 years ago. I was taken off the progesterone because of its effect on my blood sugar. Since then I have been off all hormones. I am on insulin but I didn't notice any changes in my blood sugar.

I think you have been on the pump the longest of anyone to come to the board. I don't understand your comment about brittle diabetes. We know there is such a thing as a difficult to control diabetic with greatly fluctuating blood sugars. It is not controversial to us.
