i am 29 year old. I took a blood test and it indicated that i am having blood sugar more. The counts are as follows: Blood Sugar fasting:112,blood sugar pp:236. People say that i am having high sugar. Should i start getting treated for diabetes? What should be my food diet? What fruit juices would control my sugar level. Looking for an advice

Hi and welcome to the board.

Please schedule an appointment with a health care practitioner of your choice as soon as possible. It appears that your lab results weren't normal. But there is no way for you to treat diabetes without seeing your friendsly doctor.

After you get your visit please let us know what is suggested for you. We are here to answer questions and support you in any way that we can.

Good Luck,

I'll third that - get thee to a medical person :-)

As far as juice, that is almost the same as medicine for a diabetic, to be used sparingly if at all and mostly saved for occasions when your blood sugar has gone low - juice is a great way to get sugar/carbs in quickly because it's readily absorbed. Better is to eat whole fruits (in moderation) because whole fruits still contain fiber which slows the carbs going in by a little bit.

Another thing, along with the carb values given already, is to try to avoid "white" stuff like white bread, white potatoes, white rice (as well as white sugar) - white stuff has little fiber, lots of carbs, and is generally easily/quickly digested. Portion control is also important - for instance, I can comfortably eat 1/2 cup Cheerios but 3/4 cup Cheerios raises my blood sugar reading. If you are having carbs, try to add in some protein and/or some "good" fat which will slow down the digesting/absorbing of the carbs. A meal of just plain white flour pasta with tomato sauce (particularly commercial sauces which usually contain sugar and/or corn syrup) is basically all sugar as far as your body is concerned.

Check with your doctor and pop back in to let us know what's up. This is a great bunch of folks (I was just diagnosed this year so I've learned a lot just reading other people's comments and questions as well as asking a few of my own)
