I have a family history of Diabetes, my grandmother, great grandmother, and my aunt all have/had this disease, my mother has been told that she is pre-diabetic or boarder line, but she is not one to follow any Dr.'s advice. I am the only one who hasn't had a problem . I have had two children so I have had glucose tests done during my pregnancies, and occaisionally family or friends would check my blood sugar because they were sure it would be high, everything has always came out fine. Anyways, over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that about 2 hours after I eat breakfast (sometimes lunch and dinner, but those meals are usually much more healthy then breakfast) anyways, about 2 hours after eating I get extreamly dizzy, shaky, sweaty and a little nauseous. I feel so shaky that I grab whatever I can to eat to make me feel better. Also my eyesight has been blurry, and I have been really really thirsty (I have to go to bed now with a bottle of water because I wake up through out the night because I need a drink) If my grandma was still with me I would just ask her, instead I figured I would ask you all. Should I get my blood sugar checked by the dr.? Could these symptoms even be related to diabetes? I just got to thinking about what I have done before these episodes occur and the only thing that is the same everyday is eating, and I don't want to be paranoid, but if it could be a possiblity I don't want to over look anything either. Anyways, any help would be great.
Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome to the board.
In regard to:
Amy
Jedi,
As Cheryl told you, you need to have this checked out by a physician. I just wanted to make one other comment and that is, with your family history you should be checked for diabetes routinely every two to five years. If you had gestational diabetes you would need to be checked every 2-3 years.
As Cheryl has suggested, see if you can lower the amount of carbs that you are eating for breakfast and see if that makes you feel any better. Also try to get your weight as close to normal as possible and get some exercise 3-5 days per week. Chasing two children doesn't count as exercise unfortunately.
So please schedule an appointment and then let us know what the physician thinks.
Happy Holidays,
