Question on glycemic diet
| Wed, 12-26-2007 - 11:15am |
Hi all
I am not diabetic but have been told that a low glycemic diet could help with my sugar/carb addiction. I need to lose around 40lbs which was put on from antidepressant meds. I've switched meds but my weight has stabilized and I still crave sugar like there's no tomorrow. Someone told me that if I can switch to a low glycemic way of eating the cravings will disappear. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

Hi,
There are people who swear by a low glycemic meal plan. I don't find it practical because too many foods are combinations. But what I suggest is switching to a more natural food eating plan. This involves eating more fruits (with their peel still on) and more fresh veggies and less processed foods. This includes foods which have more fiber. Fiber doesn't add calories and it fills you up and it also smoothes out the blood sugar spikes.
Look at the South Beach diet plan if you would like to see one specifically developed for diabetics.
THe other thing which helps with weight loss is to get your body moving. Exercise is good for many things including increasing the endorphins which help regulate mood.
I hope this is helpful. There are others on the board who swear by a low-glycemic eating plan and I am sure they will be posting a message to you also.
Hi Dharma,
I had luck on the South Beach Diet a couple of years ago before I was diagnosed.
Thanks for the input.
