Diabetes Drug May Cut Med-Related Weight Gain
Jan. 9 (HealthDay News) -- Improved diet, more exercise and the diabetes medication metformin can help people suffering with schizophrenia control the weight gain that typically accompanies their medications, a Chinese study suggests.
Three months of both medication and lifestyle change resulted in a loss of two centimeters around the waist as well as improvement in other health measures, such as insulin resistance, the researchers report in the Jan. 9/16 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Amy
Thanks for the information.
Hopefully when you get all the weight off that you need, and please try to do this early in your disease because it is easier then, and you have developed new eating habits and exercise habits the weight never comes back on. I, unfortunately, have never lost all that I needed to lose but I have lost 50 pounds. Insulin is a wonderful drug for the treatment of diabetes but it can cause you to gain 30 pounds. I have been on insulin almost 4 years and I have lost a few pounds (I think 5 pounds). I feel like a huge success because I haven't gained anything on insulin. I am sure it is because of my trying to stay on my eating plan and exercising 4-5 days per week.
The longer you are able to stay off medication the more likely you are to not gain weight. You are doing so well and I am sure your doctor is going to proud of you when you see him or her in February. We love celebrating successes around here!!
