Got dh's labs back

Dh got his labs back today.  His c-pep was great so that we good to hear, however his a1c was 14.  I know that isn't good but what does it mean exactly?

Also, we did have a trip to the ER today.  DH called around 1230 and said he felt like he was going to pass out and his vision kept blurring.  He waited about 20 min and then called back to let me know he was having one of the guys from work take him in.  So, I took the kids to my mom and met him at the ER.  We found out he was pretty dehydrated and his BS was at 186.  This is high but VERY low for him.  He usually has been anywhere from 200-550(remember he just found out Thurs he has diabetes).  They said because he was so used to being so high his body needs to start to get adjusted to lower #'s before they feel right.  It wasn't a bad trip though the nurse was very helpful in telling us new things regarding diet and what to look for.

Beware he has been pickling his brain cells for quite awhile with this level of blood sugar. Brain cells and eyes are very sensitive to elevated blood sugar. He will feel like he is hypoglycemic when his blood sugar comes back down until he readjusts to being normal. But soon he will be feeling better and be amazed at how badly he felt.

Hang in there, he is getting better. The bad thing about diabetes is that you have to learn the most at the very time you feel the absolute worst. I am glad the nurse at the ER was able to give you some hands on information.
