I had a stomach bypass 18 months ago and my diabetes had gone within a week, my life has changed so much I am on no medication excepting that I take a vitamin and mineral supplement.  bariatric surgery definitely worked for me i was 26 stone and i've lost just over 9 stone so far

Hi and welcome to the board.

First off, how many pounds are a stone?

There is much research coming out lately which shows that bariatric surgery is "curing" diabetes. It is because obesity plays such a role in diabetes and weight loss does bring diabetes under control. In the US most people who have this type of surgery lose about 90 pounds. But there is a problem with people maintaining their weight loss because many people go back to eating like they did before surgery and streach out their stomachs.

Congratulations on your success and I hope this is life long success for you. I do hope that you are checked periodically to make sure that diabetes doesn't raise its head again. But at this point you are a poster child for how sucessful you can be after this surgery.

A high Five to you!
