Hi everyone I am new here....
| Thu, 02-07-2008 - 6:16pm |
My name is Danyell. I had my physical the other day and my fasting glucose was higher than the doctor wants it to be...mostly in part to my eating habits and my weight. I am 70lbs overweight. So I am here, hoping to find friends and healthier ways of eating to ensure that I don't develop diabetes. She basically told me that that is where I am headed if I don't drop the weight. I have joined the gym and found some (very few) low-carb options. But I hope to blend in and learn a better healthier way of eating. I don't want to do the Atkins because I want this to be a lifestyle change.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the board.
Here is a link to a chart on glucose goals.
Hi Danyell,
There is also another article around here "Eating to Beat Diabetes" which will help you understand healthy eating. It is in the resources folder. You can advance search for it.
I realize that you want those 70 pounds off yesterday but remember you didn't gain them in a day and you won't lose them that way either. To lose weight you need to eat sensibly, variety and portion size, and you need to start moving the bod around more. The goal should be 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 5 days per week. I am sure you ahve seen us talking about walking 10,000 step. That is the goal for all of us.
So please ask your questions and post your comments. We really do want to see you do well so that you don't need to join us.
Remember we also have a dieting buddies board here at iVillage.
