I have the usual: Type 2, High cholesterol (267 at last doc appt.) and high blood pressure. I also have a hiatal hernia and GERD. I am out of medicine for high blood pressure. It will take me 2 weeks to get more and I am out of test strips and 2 weeks for that so I haven't been monitoring blood sugar. If it has been high the last 2 weeks, would that do major damage? I could get some from the pharmacy, but it costs a lot more. Last night I stared feeling funny and couldn't sleep real well. My fingers are swelling up, but I haven't noticed the ankles. I also have arthritis in my hands. I just don't feel right and kind of nauseous. I am constantly worrying about my heart. My dad passed away from a heart attack last spring. I am only 46. Should I be real concerned? Also, I lost 55 pounds since last year, but recently gained 9 because I am eating a bit more sugar. Bad I know. Thanks.

First off, you must be getting them through mail order?
Definitely call the dr's office. You can get a 'bridge' prescription that should still be covered under insurance or at least be less expensive (fewer pills, lower cost) - in fact, sometimes a pharmacy won't charge on the 'bridge' if it's only for 10 days' worth or something (I've had that happen at a major chain which was cool - I was in a sweat because I mail order my Synthyroid and miscounted how many I had left when it was time for my annual new Rx to be sent in).

Hi Debbie,
Let me see if I can answer some of your questions.
There is a way for mail-away pharmacies to expedite their shipments to you.
I think it is blood pressure meds she ran out of....... and wondering about damage...
If the blood pressure med is a diuretic, that could explain swelling fingers because you could be retaining water.
Cheryl,
She ran out of test strips and blood pressure meds. I am not sure about diabetic meds though.
Thanks ladies. I will call doc office and see what they can do. I also want to mention that the last time I saw the doctor, my A1C was 6.0. I am off all blood sugar medicines like Metformin that I used to take. My brother has a blood pressure cuff and I am going to visit tomorrow. I don't know how accurate they are. My doc was mainly concerned about the cholesterol, but of course the blood sugar is bad also. I hate not knowing my numbers, but I really got to be more careful. Plus, I am not getting a chance to exercise like I used to, but I have been exercising more this week than ever since I feel the weight gain. Thanks so much for your advice.
Debbie
Debbie,
Please let us know what the doc suggests. I do hope that they will give you some samples to take until your meds arrive.
With your wonderful weight loss, I am not surprised that you are off meds. Your A1C is something to be proud of also.
