I know the sick day guidelines were printed and thanks so much for that. I have type 2 and on no insulin or pills at the moment. I was vomitting, but it settled down now. I have a fever of 100.4. I checked my levels and at 9 they were 118 then 117 and now at 3:30, 92. I haven't eaten and only had water as of now for fear of vomitting. I can take water now and best get on it to avoid dehydration. All I had was diet coke which made my stomach a bit better. My stomach really hurt this morning, but now it is just tender. Any advice? I assume that I shouldn't have anything to eat because I can't get up to 30 carbs. If my numbers go lower, I guess I should have some sugar soda. Just checking if this is correct. Thanks.

Thanks so much for you help Cheryl. I makes sort of sense. I was told not to eat under 30 carbs though. So, would that be a problem? My numbers aren't bad, but I don't want to do the wrong thing by not eating enough. I worry about not keeping things down. I guess I can have some toast. Two pieces of 15 grain would be 32 carbs. But I don't know how much I can keep down. I have to try. It is frustrating because I was sick just a month ago.

WHO told you not to eat less than 30 grams of carbs?

Well, for snacks I was told I can have less, but not for a major meal. The dietician told me for major meals, but with being sick, maybe that doesn't count. I don't know. But it is 30. 45 and 45 for major meals, correct? I know I can eat that many. I need to eat now, but really don't feel like it.

Thanks.

Debbie

Thanks again. I only had a piece of toast and very little soda to feel better, but it jumped to 137. In any case, I am fine not eating much. When do you call the doctor? How high do numbers have to be to call?

Debbie,

You do need to eat and eat something mild that will soothe your tummy. For example apple sauce would be good. You could even ave some cooked cereal. Don't use the sugared drink unless your blood sugar is below 80 and then you need something else to eat because your blood sugar will go straight up and then come straight down. This is also a time when you can eat a sugar free pudding.

I do hope that you feel better real soon.

Thanks Mary Frances. Yep, that is what happened. I was 137 and it is now 97. I don't have applesauce. How about eggs? Or is that too greasy. With the toast of course or a bagel if that is better.
