I was FINALLY able to get all of my preconception doctor appointments scheduled - although I think they are slightly out of order but I will take what I can get.
- I see a Diabetic Nurse/Nutritonist/Counselor this Friday
- I see my OB GYN on the 18th of March
- I see my perinatal(?) endocrinologist on the 26th of March
I was disappointed that I cannot get in to see the endocrinologist earlier since I want to get started on this insulin venture and get my blood sugars down and under comfortable control as soon as possible so we can start TTC. Also it would seem to me to make more sense if I was on insulin before I worked on my meal plans.
Anyway I start with the meal plans and closer carb counting and more daily monitoring of my blood sugars starting Friday......
So much to think about and this is just for my diabetes once I get this nailed then I have another month of coming off my depression medication.
THEN
We can actually start trying to make a baby.......

I'm with you Michelle... take the appointments in any order you can get them!!!
Michelle,
I am sure that you are going to learn a huge amount of information quickly. And I am also sure that you once just see these health professionals. Adjustments will be made to your eating plan depending upon how you respond to the insulin.
Please keep us in the loop as this goes on. We are all cheering for you.
Hi Mary Frances! So good to hear from you again. You can bet I will be around a lot here on this board and also on the Pregnant and Diabetic Board too (once I get to that point). I am sure that I will learn oodles over the next two months.
I just hope I can learn enough to get myself ready to try and then keep myself and a baby healthy. My biggest concerns with insulin is the lows. The highs I know I can manage with watching what I eat and the insulin but if I keep going too low - that is what freaks me out.
One day, one appointment, one blood sugar reading at a time. That's my motto!
The lows aren't fun but you will learn to recognize them and treat them. I still have lows even though we have adjusted meds in every way possible. I am even on less meds than I was on. But I know when they most frequently occur and so I watch out for them. The dietitian was really helpful too.
Yesterday the computers at work were being especially squirlly and I couldn't get them to work correctly. I was talking to someone about it and finally she said to me, What is your blood sugar? Isn't it time for you to eat! It was.
We changed my long acting insulin so that I take it in the morning and I can deal with any lows while I am awake. It is really nasty to be awaken by hypoglycemia. I know to test about 3 1/2 hours after I ahve eaten my breakfast and then plan lunch accordingly. One thing I will say is that I can't get so involved in things at work that I miss lunch. I have scared my boss more than once that way and so there is no question of stopping me now when I say I am going to lunch.
Just remember the end goal is a healthy baby and everything will fall into place.
I am with Mary Frances about the lows.
