Animas 2020 versus Mini-Med Paragigm

Hi all –

I met with my Diabetic Nurse Practitioner today and I loved her. We talked for about 2 hours and she made me feel so comfortable. She gave me over 14 days of sample meal plans which is what I really was looking for the most at this point. I will actually meet with the endocrinologist in a few weeks – a bit backwards I know…

Anyway I will probably be on an insulin pump for my pregnancy and I was wondering if anyone had experience with either the Animas 2020 or the Mini-Med Paradigm?

The only real advantage I see of the Mini-Med over the Animas is that the Mini-Med allows for a continuous glucose monitoring system that works with the pump as well, while the Animas would require me to continue to do finger sticks still (not THAT big of a deal).

I have to double check and see if my insurance also covers the continuous glucose monitoring part.

At this point I am doing research and will not start any insulin until I meet with the endocrinologist at the end of the month.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would say that first of all do find out about your insurance.

I am about to take my dog for a walk and then come home and do some customer review seaches and see what else I can garner up on each of them from the good ole internet. Initial reaction is that the Mini Med Paradigm with continuous glucose monitor seems a bit too techy for me but we shall see.

Michelle,

One other thing to think about and that is what is your doctor most comfortable with. Sometimes they know a certain pump better than another one. Mini-Med is the most common pump. So ask your doctor which one they would prefer you to use. I know that Mini-Med will work with doctor to get it covered by insurance. I am sure the other one will also.
