Hi! I'm Carole, and am new to this group - and new to this whole diabetes thing. About me: I'm 4'11", about 215lbs (I know, I know). Got my physical done on Monday, and went yesterday to get my bloodwork done. They called me this afternoon, and told me that my lipids and cholesterol levels were good. But.....that my Glucose level was 137 and that it should be below 110. ??? So I go back in the morning to get another blood test for hemoglobin AIC? The nurse I was talking to told me not to panic, that this did not mean that I was diabetic, but that I may be pre-diabetic. My doc also is sending me to a dietician (I work at a huge hospital, so we have everything all under one roof, which is wonderful!) to discuss the ADA diet, etc., if - for nothing else - to help me to get my weight under control.
Question - How bad is it that my glucose level is 137 and should be below 110? This is all so Greek to me. Help?????

If the result of plasma glucose per mg/dL falls in the range 100 to 125 then it denotes Pre-diabetes and range between 126 and above denotes Diabetes. Proper diet planning, physical activity along with prescribed medications will manage the diabetes well under control.
