What Exactly is an Endo?

I'm going to be seeing an Endocrinologist (sp?) the second Friday in May. I am not sure exactly what they do, I'm assuming they specialize in disbetes? What should I expect from this appointment?

Misty,
Specifically they specialize in dosease of the endocrine system which includes thyroid and pancreas. So they treat elevated and lowered thyroid hormones, parathyroid diseases and hyper and hypo glycemia. You can expect someone to massage your blood sugar. They may change the amount of insulin you are taking and when you take it. Additionally when you aren't pregnant they may prescribe other drugs which will get your blood sugar under optimum control. Considering the amount of insulin that it is taking to control your disease, in my humble opinion you should be followed by an endo. Endos are for the most serious of diabetics because there aren't enough of them around to treat all diabetics.
I hope this answers your question. If not, please ask me again!
Massage my blood sugar?

Maybe the endo will clear up a few things.
Misty, that is exactly what I expect the endo to do. By saying massage your blood sugar what I meant was to make small changes which will bring in into better control.
Something for you to think about: If you continue to need such a large amount of insulin, even after your baby is born, perhaps a pump would allow you to have better control. The endo would be the one to tell you the answer to this.
