Could someone help me out, please

Here's a little back story. I developed an obsessive thirst a couple weeks ago. I thought it might be diabetes and decided to call the Dr. Well I put it off until this past Monday when I almost passed out in the shower. Called, got in, had some blood drawn.
The next AM I got a call from the Dr to go to the ER immediately - my blood sugar level came back at 650!!
So I went and 8 hours later they sent me home at 338.
The next day I bought a meter and that night my level was 224. The next AM fasting was 167. Since then it's bounced around between 150 and 220. The Dr feels that with the Glucoflage starting to kick in over the next couple of days, I should be okay without insulin.
Here's the problem. I feel worse than I did on Monday when my level was 650. Why? If my level is coming down why do I feel so bad? I'm sick to my stomach, I feel a little light headed, I'm having problems remembering. I can't think of words.
Can anyone shed some light on what's going on?
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the board.
Thanks.
Cheryl is right; your body just has to get re-adjusted to the lower blood glucose.

Hi and welcome to the board.
My name is Mary Frances and I am the other community leader for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.
I agree with what Cheryl and 2sweet02 has told but there is one more thing going on. And that is glucophage. Glucophage is a wonderful drug but it has some nasty side effects which will go away. I am hoping that your doctor started you on a low dose so that your system could get used to it before moving you to the dosage that you need to get your blood sugar under control. By a low dose I mean 250 mgm once or twice per day. Please understand that you need to take this medication with food in your stomach. It takes about 10-14 days for your system to get used to it and then if your blood sugar isn't at the correct level yet the dosage needs to be increased. The maximum dosage is 2000 mgm per day.
Ideally someone with a blood sugar as high as yours is started on insulin to bring the blood sugar down and then is switched over to oral meds and taken off insulin. You also need to be sent to a diabetic educator or at least a dietitian who specializes in diabetes for meal planning help. Just remember a small weight loss of approximately 20 pounds (or 5-10% of your body weight)
Thanks so much for the replies and the warm welcome.
I am signed up for classes and I can't wait to attend.

Hi Cindy,
I am new here also , it is a very friendly and helpful board, I am learning.
I just wanted to let you know when I started on the same medication you are taking only the generic version called metformin it made me very sick at my stomach almost unbearably so.
My sugar was not near as bad as yours but the Metformin made me feel horrible.
It lasted almost two months with the first two weeks being the worst.
I have no effects now. I take mine with a meal .
Nothing that hasn't been said her just adding my experience with metformin to the others . I have been a diabetic for ten yrs now and actually don't know much about the disease
