Hi all -
I was wondering if you could help me out on this one.
I use the novolog pen. It seems that every time I give myself a shot there is always some insulin that is left floating on the tip of the needle after I pull it out. Is this O.K. and does it mean that I am not getting the full dosage??
Thanks for your help.
chris

Hi chris
Do they have a website or phone help line you could contact?

Hi Chris,
What an interesting question. I haven't used a pen yet so I haven't experienced this. I am waiting for the pen to arrive with Symlin. When you prime the pen before giving yourself the shot do you waste the 1 unit of insulin? Is the drop of insulin you see about the same size as that drop? If so, at most you would be losing one unit. I think this is within the margin or error and really nothing to worry about.
You could contact Nova-Nordisk and ask them or ask your diabetic educator if you have one assigned to you.
I wish I had known about this question when I was away because I talked to the Nova folks about using a pen and I could have asked them. DRATS!!
Oh darn, that would have been good!
Anyway, I would say it is about a drop that is left on the pen after I give myself the shot. I plan on asking my endo next time I go. I'll let you know what she says.
