Hi ladies,
You have helped me so much with learning about my blood sugar issues I am hoping someone can tell me a little more about my infection problem.
I have had a uti with citrobacter freundi complex for months it became resistant to one antibiotic after another, it does not respond to any antibiotic anymore. It is making me quite sick and my Urologist has no idea what to do and I do have a appointment next week with a infection specialist but I sure feel horrible now.
It is my understanding that this bacteria feeds on sugar so is the resistance caused because I have diabetes ?
I am trying to keep my sugar levels down as much as I can and I got some glucernia drinks to use for meals instead of regular meals right now. My sugar does not get high after drinking these.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do until my appointment other than the obvious such as keep sugar under tight control and drink a lot of water get plenty of rest if possible etc?
Also has anyone ever had this or have knowledge of this bacteria? The urologist said he doesn't know if it is curable or not and offered me no other options if the new doctors choice of IV antibiotics do not work.
Do I just wait to get sepias if it doesn't't work? I asked if surgery would be an option and was told no.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
Blessings , Dee

You know what he told you fits what I have been saying for YEARS!!!!
"How do you allow the natural bacteria to come into balance?"
Things like yogurt with ACTIVE cultures help the good bacteria rebound - if you can't handle yogurt, you can get things like acidopholus in pill form at many health food type places (and even sometimes at the grocery store). You'd want to get the fat free plain yogurt and add your own fruit and whatnot or check the labels for something that isn't packed with sugars. For me, the plain non-fat, Greek yogurt (it's strained of some of the whey so it's thicker and milder) with about a teaspoonful or two of agave syrup and a nice sprinkle of cinnamon is a great snack, low in carbs, low in fat, has protein, potassium (good for blood pressure regulation), and not too high in calories. There are several brands available at the grocery store.

Dee;
Let me on of the first to say that at no time did I believe that you caused this infection.
This is good advice for anyone on antibiotics.
Thank you so much for the replies ladies.
I started on the Vantin Tuesday and Thursday my husband had a heart attack and has had two surgeries since then, but is alive and doing pretty good.
OMG Dee!!!!
Dee;
First off let me tell you how sorry I am that you and your husband have yet another "trial" to go through and that it is good to hear that he is doing well.
Dee,
I am so sorry to read about your hubby. I hope that both of you are doing better. You have really had a bad time and I hope this is the last of it.
A gentle hug,
