I had a flare hemorrhage in my eye and it took a lot to get it diagnosed.

I didn't vote, because I have my eyes checked every 8 months.

I am so glad to see, sorry no pun intended, that most of you are meeting the standards for diabetic eye care. You need to have a dilated eye exam every year as a diabetic.

For some reason that hasn't been determined diabetics are more susceptible to glaucoma and so you need pressures taken. As Harriette said you can have a hemmorrhage just because you have been diabetic for a while.

Type 2 diabetes starts many years before it is diagnosed. When the diabetes starts it damages the smaller blood vessels found in the eyes, kidney and feet. Many times the first signs of diabetes are seen in the back of the eye in the blood vessels. It is so important to prevent the complications and money well spent to make sure that you are able to live your life to the fullest.

So if your doctor doesn't remind you about this, put it on the calendar for yourself. Get your eyes checked annually.

I couldn't vote on this one because I don't fit in anywhere. I used to get it every year until OHIP stopped paying for it and I haven't had one in 9 years (actually OHIP didn't stop paying until more recently) I plan on going soon, just keep thinking to myself "next month"

Amanda,

What a pretty signature. Welcome to the board.

I know it is expensive but you really need to take better care of your eyes. I am so sorry that your insurance won't pay for it. It is really stupid in my humble opinion for insurance not to pay for these things for diabetes. It is so much cheaper than paying for the complications. So please make an appointment and don't put it off any longer. I don't want anything awful to happen to you.

Amy,

I am glad that both of you are okay. I wonder which one of you was more surprised! LOL!! I bet you were surprised to see those big brown eyes.

Nancy,

I hope you are okay with all the nasty weather you are having right now. You have too much water and we have a drought. Think we can share?
