I have been a lurker and occassional poster on this board for several months. Just a recap, I am 28 yrs old and have pre-diabetes. I am very borderline and have all the family history to suggest that it is just a matter of time. Both of my parents are type 2 as well as Grandparents, etc. I know things like exercise can affect your numbers. I have had mine under control for a while (I used to have frequent lows) but the last 4-5 days have been horrible. I just want to know if stress can throw your body off balance enough to throw off your glucose levels.
Lots of things happened last week. The two major things are that I have to take my 2 yr old to a dermatologist today because our doctor thinks a suspicious looking mole needs to come off. I was born with something similar that was pre-cancerous and removed when I was 9. Then my 8-yr old had a check-up and a study came out saying kids on ADHD meds should have EKG's so we had one done and I didn't think anything else about it. Thursday my doctor called me and said the cardiologist that looked at my DS's EKG thought he saw an arrhythmia and needs to go see a pediatric cardiologist to confirm and have more tests. Something about the electrical currents are getting through his heart. We don't have any more information because our doctor admitted it was outside her realm of knowledge so we're waiting...impatiently...for his appointment on June 3. As you can see, I am very stressed about my kids' health. I just wanted to know if this could be what is throwing my numbers off. Thank you all!

{{HUGS}} Yes, stress can throw numbers way out of whack. So can illness (cold, flu, allergies, etc). Also, stress can sometimes cause you to eat differently (eating more, eating less) which can affect things as well. And, in stressful situations that involve going places (appointments, travel, etc), you might not get the same exercise in that you normally would (which is really important to keep insulin resistance under control).
