Hello, I haven't posted in a long time but I just have to vent about this disease. I've been a type 11 diabetic since 1995 and just the past 4yrs or so I've been on insulin. It has gotten worse because I have issues with eating, (i love to eat all the wrong things) but earlier this year i was put on Byetta. Everyone says oh, it is wonderful and you can lose weight etc....! Well, it was doing great brought my over 200 fastings down to about 157-180 and of course after eating it was brought down as well. I could eat at Olive Garden and have fettucine alfredo and 2hrs later my bld sugars were great! So now all of a sudden it's getting bad meaning my bld sugars are creeping up again. Now, why does it take care o f it and than not work? I've also been walking about a mile 2-3 times a week. Believe me, that is major for me,..but I have lost about 10 pounds only and I've been on Byetta since February. I already know that basically I need to cut out all carbs because that's my weakness but I just have so much trouble doing it. I've tried the changes in eating but I basically can't stay on them for long. I'm afraid I'll never be able to do it. I know my health is important but I can't seem to cut out all the carbs because that is what makes me full and crave most of the time. I also know what I need to do but just have so much trouble doing it.
I mean my doctor has even helped by giving me an example of daily eating but I have trouble with only salad for lunch....i'm just so lost.
Please help, need advice asap.
I don't want to die from this disease.

Hi Suzie, I like carbs too, but I measure the carbs all the time. I am gluten and dairy intolerant, so I have an added problem. I love pasta, but now must eat rice pasta, which isn't bad when I use
Hi Suzie,
The answer isn't cutting out all the carbs but cutting down on the carbs. You have to have carbs for brain functioning.
I think what you need is a visit with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes for a meal plan that meets your needs. I also think that you need to start carb counting. I was amazed at how liberating it was. I had previous counted exchanges. If you haven't a dietitian in a long time then your insurance should/could cover it. As your doctor for a referral.
In the meantime start a food diary and write down what you are eating, how much and any unusual circumstances. This will give you a clue as to what is triggering your binge eating.
In the current issue of Diabetic Living are some wonderful articles on this. You can get this magazine in the grocery store. It also has some really nice recipes.
