Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes May of this year. I am 30 years old, a thin person, excercise regularly, and thought I took care of myself fairly well.
For the past 6 months my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. We figured out in May that I have diabetes and this might have been a reason why I haven't been able to get pregnant.
I walked into the doctor's office with a BS level at 391. They shot me with insulin immediately and it jumped up to 440. They then admitted me to the hospital for observation and thankfully I was able to go with oral medication. Metphormin(sp?) and glipizide.
My A1C levels at the hospital were at 12.0. I understand I need to be at a 6ish before I should get pregnant again. (I think I forgot to mention, I also had gestational diabetes with my son.)
So I guess I'm looking for hope that I can get pregnant again? Do your A1C levels change drastically? I go back in 3 months to check again. If my BS is somewhat under control can my levels go down fast?

Hi and welcome to the board!
Wow!
When are you testing?
Thanks for the tip.
Hi and welcome to the board,
I just wanted to pipe with Yes, you can get pregnant but don't try until you get your blood sugar under good control. You can see changes from the metformin for up to 8 weeks after you start taking it. Metformin does not cause low blood sugar readings but the glipizide does. To prevent the lows before lunch you could save some of your carbs from breakfast or eat some of the lunch ones early. 1/2 an apple is about 10 grams of carbs and should raise your blood sugar about 25 points. So if it is 70, it would go up to 90 or 95 which is a much better level.
Most doctors take their diabetic ppatients off oral meds and out them on insulin for the duration of the pregnancy and then return them to oral meds when they are no longer pregnant. When you are pregnant you are not only treating the mom but also the baby. You want both to be in the best of health.
I hope this answers some of your questions. Please continue to ask all you want. We are here to help as best we can.
