Hi all, excuse the hat but i'm falling asleep on the keys so not going to be long. In any case. I am at risk of secondary diabetes due to a medication I'm on. The reason is uncertain, although some say it's linked to the weight gain from the med. I had a fasting glucose, plus cholesterol, insulin (and prolactin, although that's just something else from the med, not like I care about my fertility, which is the thing most linked to prolactin from what I understand - although could be hypothyroidism or hypothalmic disease). Okay way off topic. What should I be doing to minimize the diabetes risk. I'll let you know in a couple days when I hear about the blood work.

Amanda, I don't know for sure on putting off or preventing diabetes from meds but I can share with you over all.

Untreated/undertreated hypothyroid can impact fertility by suppressing ovulation. The way I understand it (having been dxd hypothyroid about 15 years ago), the pituitary sends TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to tell the thyroid to get to work. The TSH then breaks down into other things, including something that inhibits ovulation. In the small normal amounts, it can't compete with the big hormones like estrogen and such. But, when the thyroid isn't functioning properly, the level of TSH goes up and the pituitary repeatedly tried to 'kick start' the thyroid. That elevated amount of the byproduct chemical can compete and even overwhelm the 'bigger' hormones.

Thank you both. I haven't heard from the dr, so I guess the blood work is fine. I'll call on Monday to be sure, but she said she'd call if there was a problem. I think I will continue to get my blood sugar checked every 3 months, because that's what seems to be the average from what I've read. My natural health encyclopedia has the glycemic index in it so I'll check that out. I know I eat too many carbs. I checked my fitday and I have an average of 174g/day for the last month, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. I'm trying to add more exercise to my routine. Today I biked 4.5 km YAY! I'll check in shortly to let you know how the progress is coming.
