The reason I posted this question is because my Accu-Chek Compact Plus meter won't take up the blood and therefore won't do a test. It started with the last drum of test strips and I thought that perhaps something was wrong with that drum. So I changed drums and the problem continued. So on Thursday I called the customer service line for help. They had me do a test and it wouldn't take up the blood. Then they wanted me to use the control solution which I couldn't find. So they are going to send me some control solution but because of the holiday they can't send it to me until Monday. I am to call them when I get it which will be probably Wednesday. That is almost 1 week with out my meter.

I would be really worried about goin g a week without being able to check my blood sugar but I have another meter that I was given when I was in a lancet trial and so I am using my back-up meter. The only problem is if I run out of test strips I will need to purchase more myself since I don't have a prescription for them.

I don't have a spare but I've considered getting one so I can have one here at work and one at home. Currently, I carry my one meter back and forth but that's a pain (and some days, like today, after a long weekend, I forget to bring it with me). I keep seeing all sorts of meters that are small and convenient but I really like my larger accucheck because of the drum (not handling individual strips and using disposable lancets so there's no cleaning of lancets involved). Plus, if I get a different kind of meter, I'd have to work it out with my dr. to get two different prescriptions for strips or end up paying for one or the other. So, it's still in thinking about it land.

Hmm, let's see, I think I have four meters right now...haha. Actually, three with one on the way. Youguys should order the free accu-check meters, I think they come with maybe ten strips, and you could just store it away in case something happens. I've actually gotten one, and just ordered another one using my new address! I like to mix things up, though, so, I always have choices. (Hey, after this long it gets boring...)

I know what it is like to have one of one kind and one of another brand.

both my meters are freestyle although one is the original model which now seems huge in comparison. both use the same test strips, and if i travel i take the old one with. actually both are now close to 5 years old.

No, but I wish I did. I have the One Touch Ultra 2 and it is a good meter, but I keep worrying about inactive readings. Lately I have been having increased thirst, urinating quite a bit and a yeast infection yet the meter reads normal so I hope it is right. The test strips are in range????? I wish I could get one. I got the test strip box with a coupon to get a free meter, but only if the meter was purchased before 2006. I got mine last June so it is fairly new. I have no insurance right now so I can't even check my A1C.

One thing you might want to do, Walmart now is selling an A1C kit, but you have to send in the test for a reading..so its not like the A1C now, i used to like.

Thanks so much; I'll look for it. It'll be a lot cheaper than the blood test and doctor. Do you have to pay to have it sent out?
