What is your idea of good diabetes control?
- A1C of 7% or higher
- A1C of less than 7% as recommended by the Amercian Diabetes Association
- A1C of 6.5% or less as recommended by Amer Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists
- A1C as close to normal as possible (ie 4-5%)
- I don't know
- No one has ever discussed this with me.
- Other

I usually aim for 6 or less for me, but have had 5.2 or 5.4 in the past and my endo said that it was too low (I was pregnant with our daughter). However, he also said that an accuracy rate of 95% for readings should be worked on. Hmmm. I take him with a grain of salt! Luckily I've been at 6 or lower for alost 5 years. 5.9 seems to be 'normal' for me. I think that any lower would make me low too often, and with 2 young kids to run after I'm more comfortable where I am.

I said Other because the 'normal' range is 4%-6% (not 4%-5%) as far as I've been able to find and that's what I aim for - it was in the 5.4-5.8 range all of 2007. This spring it went up to 6.2 but this last test recently (for my quarterly follow up) was back down to 6.0. I'm hoping to get it back UNDER 6.0 by the next test in the fall.
I know that at some point it's likely that if I have it under 6.5 I'll be content but for now, I'm working at keeping it 6.0 or below.
