Scary Morning

Darn me for sleeping in! I woke up at 9am instead of 7am, and my blood sugar was 27! Eeep! I don't know if it was just a fluke, or if those two hours did that much to me. I had a normal snack before bedtime. Anyways, I couldn't get my boyfriend up, so run (yes, ran!) to the kitchen and my first thought is "COKE", but it was gone, so I drank some energy drink (lots of sugar, but a bad idea since I was already hot and sweaty and my heart was pounding). As I was looking in the fridge, I started getting the tunell-y vision blackout, so I used my last insta-glucose tube and grabbed whatever I could, which happened to be a huge, solid, milk chocolate bunny! When I got my mind back, I had a bowl of Cheerios and a glass of milk. It wasn't the best mix of things, but hey, it worked. Anyways, now I'm really scared because I'll go through periods of months and months at a time when I won't wake up with a blood sugar level higher than 65. So my plan, now, at least for a week or two is to wake up in the middle of the night and check my blood...yay.

Oh, and I actually checked it twice, I thought my meter was wrong at first, and the energy drink didn't effect me at all, I didn't drink too much of it.

The other thing that you need to do is to put some glucose tabs in your bedside table so that you don't have to run to the kitchen. I know how hard it is to run to kitchen in the middle of the night with hypoglycemia! Taint fun to say the least. So prepare now while you feel okay. Maybe you could also make your bedtime snack a little heavier, perhaps a little more protein than usual to see if that will carry you through the night.

Good luck and I hope this doesn't happen again soon.

That is very scary. I just had a little refresher course tonight and the nurse said to always have hard candies on hand and then follow it up with a pack of cheese & crackers. I never heard this one before. You should just put a few hard candies on your night table if God forbid this happens again.
