My husband is a diabet. He had total hip implant 3/3/06/ Two weeks after he was inthe hospital witha infection.Had surgery again . The dr. said that his body rejected the stitches. In sept.07 had to have more surgery on the wound, had a wound care for 30 days did nothing. Our local dr. and myself has been taking care of it since Nov. I have to dress this about 3or 4 times a day.He keeps his bs under control, The dr. has to cut hard cyst out of the wound very often. Can anyone offer any help on what kind of a dr. that we can see.

Hi and welcome to the board!
Okielady,
Hi!

Julie,
Thank you for your really detailed answer to this question. I was away from the computer yesterday (I went to a wedding) when it came in. I would make one other suggestion and that is to see an infection control doctor because s/he will be able to suggest the most appropriate antibiotics for this wound infection.
My sister is a nurse epidemiologist and I am sure when she comes back from vacation and sees this message she will have something to say!
Thank you so much for helping out. You did an even better job than I could have done.
You're welcome.

I think you need to see an infectious disease doctor because you need to get to the bottom of what kind of an infection he has and then get the proper medication for that infection. Infectious disease doctors deal with all kinds of infections not just communicable diseases. IMHO you need to ask for this referral. I am hoping that the infection isn't all the way into the hip bone requiring removal of the hardware that was put in. This has been going on too long and so now you need the superspecialists. I don't mean to scare you. I can certainly understand your frustration. Please let me know what you think.
I am really hoping that my sister (cl-buglady2) gets back from her vacation real soon because this is absolutely up her alley and she can give you valuable assistance and information. So if you can hang in there for a few more days she will be back later this week.
Okielady;
