Siagon Cinnamon

I was out at a special event yesterday called Seeds to Table. It was about growing your own food and using the food that you grow in interesting ways. Along the way I ended up in a spice shop that had some Siagon Cinnamon in bulk. It smells absolutely wonderful and quite strong. The clerk told me it is the best cinnamon on the market. So I bought an ounce for $3.50. I tried it this morning on my cereal. I didn't use a full teaspoon, more like 1/2 teaspoon. I was a little sick to my stomach after eating my breakfast but it went away fairly quickly. I didn't notice any difference with my blood sugar.
Can you tell me what your experience with Siagon Cinnamon has been? Did you experience any side effects form using it? How long was it before your system got used to it and it didn't bother you anymore?

Can't say for certain but I don't think I even use 1/2 tsp on a single serving of anything - a small sprinkle, a light dusting maybe. I use maybe 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp for an entire batch of banana muffins or other baked goods so I don't think I use that much cinnamon on cereal. I don't ever remember having digestive upset with cinnamon (Saigon or otherwise, I use the plain old stuff every day liberally and save the "good stuff" for specific uses).
As far as blood sugar levels, YMMV as far as cinnamon goes. Works for some, not for all. I figure, it tastes good and I like it so it can't hurt, might help, go for it. Also, while it may help with blood glucose levels, it is not a 'get out of jail free' card or anything such that pouring on cinnamon means you can eat a whole bowlful of cereal when otherwise you wouldn't. What it means is that you still measure and portion the correct for you amount of cereal (or what have you) and the cinnamon added will moderate the reaction to that safe healthy portion so it is even better for you. But, if having 1/2 cup of Cheerios sends your blood sugar sky high (like 200), cinnamon is not going to allow you to eat 1/2 cup of Cheerios. If, however, 1/2 cup of Cheerios puts your blood sugar just barely under the post-meal max reading (say 135), cinnamon might help it be more like 125.

Trish,
But doesn't it have a wonderful smell!! I'm not a new or "mild" diabetic so I doubt that it would have much effect but i had to see what the researchers were talking about!
Keep up the good work!
Hey Becky,
Glad to see you here! Siagon cinnamon is supposed to be the best cinnamon available. It has a wonderful smell and a little bit of it does go a long ways! According to the researchers at UCLA it is supposed to lower a diabetics blood sugar. The desired about is 1 teaspoon but I couldn't make that much! I think you would have to look for at specialty food markets and other places which specialize in organic things. It was also pretty expensive but since it is so strong it should go a long ways. I made an apple dessert and used less than 1/2 tsp and it was enough.
I'll see you on the stitching board again soon,
HI Geri,
Welcome to the diabetes board!
It is wonderful and I didn't buy a huge amount because I didn't want to hold it so long that the smell had gone away. Lots of times we buy jars of herbs and by the time we use them they are old and worn out. We don't think of herbs as having a shelf life.
