I am not sure about exercising with the BG numbers that high. I know if you are type 1 that is major cause for concern and think they tell them NOT to exercise if number is over 250.

He needs to call his doctor (endocrinologist) immediately. Any blood sugars above 400 need to be reported to the doctor and may warrant a visit to the emergency room. He is obviously taking in too many carbs and not getting enough insulin yet. But he needs to seek immediate emergency help.

Hi,

No I am a nurse, a long time type 2 diabetic, on insulin and married to a type 2 diabetic. Does that cover aaeverything??LOL Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.

I knew that you said that he had been to his doctor but when he starts experiencing 500 blood sugar, it is an emergency, regardless of when he saw his physician.

Do you know what his initial A1C reading is? They should have done it when he was first diagnosed.

Cheryl,

I knew that she said that he had seen his regular doctor and diabetes. But a 500 blood sugar is an emergency and obviously whatever they told him to do is not working and he needs to be seen immediately. Often when someone has a blood sugar that high that isn't responding they need to be admitted to the hopsital to get it under control. That's why I printed the message in red.

Maryfrances isn't there something too about not exercising if your numbers are over a certain number. I thought with Type 1's

It took a while for him to get to the point of having 500 blood sugars and it will take awhile for him to get back into a normal range. By a while I mean less than 2 weeks. He may also feel funny as his sugars come down because his brain has gotten used to swimming in sugar. This is to be expected.
