When this kind of thing happens, it is best to run a control test. The meter will mark the controll test and it won't count into your averages.

When I was at the doctor's office last month the detail person for Acuchek was there and I was telling her about my travails with my Accu Chek compact. She told me there was a new version out and that the doctor's office had lots of them and to ask for a new meter. Then she proceeded to give me a new meter and one for my husband. It is actually nicer than the old one because it contoured to fit into your hand better. Uses the same drums which is nice and so I didn't have to change anything.

Do remember also your doctor can order a meter check. This is where you take your meter to the lab and you test your blood and they take a sample from the same stick and run your blood sugar. The results should be with in 10% of each other.

I have found that when I have run two different tests using two different meters that the results don't vary very much, only a point or two. SO what happened to Nora is very strange but since her insulin dosage was determined by this, it is wonderful that she checked it again or she would have seriously over dosed herself with insulin.

Yup - there are multi parts to getting a test result: the meter itself, the strips, and the site. Any one or any combination can be off - minor annoyance when it's something non-critical seriously aggravating when it's major like a glucose meter. That's where the test solution can be helpful because you eliminate the finger stick which makes it easier.

Do you use the Accu-Chek Compact with the drums? What was the expiration date on your strips? I'll tell you why I ask these questions after you answer my questions.

Nora,

The reason I asked this is that both my husband and I have had problems with strips in the drums which have an expiration date of 2/09. I talked to the company and got an extra meter which was just like the version that I had. Then the detail person gave me a newer version of the meter and on all three I have had problems with strips that had that expiration date. I am glad that I have finally used them all up!! My husband and my strips came out of different boxes but of course they could have been from the same manufacturing run.

I am wondering if the company is having manufacturing problems with their test strips.

Mmm, waffles. Ooops, sorry. Why not get a meter that can use the strips you already have? I have 3 or 4 meters (I'm a freebie junkie!) and they all use the same.
