carbs????

Hi everyone, i've posted here quite some time ago and am looking for answers.  My DH has been a diabetic for approx. 30 years.  He's had several complications and currently his A1c is 9.8 and he's recently lost 8 pounds--he's very slim.  I am on a mission to help him get things under control, and by doing so i plan to adopt a new eating plan for myself and our 15 yr old daughter.

Anywhoo, can you tell me how many carbs we should be getting at each meal (approx.), i want to balance out our carb intake and need a baseline to start.  I know on the days that dh works physically harder than others we will need to increase the carbs in his meals and snacks, but are there numbers available to use as a rule of thumb?  He's on the pump, has trouble with his neuropathy in hands and feet, has lost a significant amount of eye sight when his eye's hemmoraged, has high blood pressure, takes cholosteral, thyroid, blood pressure meds and is thin as a stick.  all advise will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lori,

Do you remember what rate his pump is set at? Does he take a bolus when he eats a certain amount of carbs? It may be time for him to have a tune up on what he is doing because he shouldn't be losing weight and still have an elevated A1C. It seems like over time we forget what we are supposed to be doing or maybe it's just that slowly what we have been doing doesn't work as well as it used to.
