Breast feeding and Lantus

So, in the future (hopefully not to long from now), I want to have children. I was reading facts on Lantus on drugs.com, and it says something about not breastfeeding while on it, or at least seeing your doctor and being very careful. Does anyone know why? I can assume that my blood sugars may drop if breastfeeding, but I wonder if that's all, or if it's harmful to the baby. Gah! This new chapter in my life keeps getting more and more complicated. Oh, and I'm going to ask my Dr. about this, but seeing as how it's going to be probably at least 5 years before I even start trying to conceive, it isn't top priority right now.

It wasn't until late last year the Lantus was approved for pregnant women. I think the concern is about the Lantus being in the breast milk and therefore causing a lowering of the baby's blood sugar. The overall problem is that we can't ethically do research because babies are involved and no one would sign an informed concent form.

Do ask your doctor and let us know what s/he says. I would really like to know what they say.
