Hi everone.
I am so glad to have found this website.
I just found out I am a Type 2 Diabetic. 9/29*/08. My fasting blood sugar ia running around 300 and thriughout the day close to 350-490. I am counting carbs now and checking my sugar 6 times a day. My doctor put me on metformin 500 1xaday. I am also walking 20-30 minutes a day.
My concern is I am not seeing any improvement! What else can I do? Iknow its only been 2 weeks but shouldn't I see some improvement?
Thank you
Peggy

I think metformin can take 3 to 4 weeks to affect the BG numbers.
A book you might want to look for is Gretchen Becker's book which is called
The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed (First Year, The) (Paperback). She has a bunch of other books too, but when i was first dagnosed the Dr just referred me to the diabetic education unit and gave me absolutely no information. i didnt even get a prescription for meter to test until AT that first meeting.
This book will answer a lot of questions and will also give you (anyway it gave me) a sense of peace over knowing what to expect to happen when!!
I know you said you are counting carbs, but how many are you eating at each meal. One big snag is we CANNOT do what some people on low carb diets do...I remember sister saving up carbs for one big meal and avoiding the rest of the time.

Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.
There is so much to tell you!! Metformin is a wonderful drug. You can see changes in your blood sugar up to eight weeks after starting the drug. Because
