Greetings from Texas after Ike

Greetings to all -

I have been a little busy over the past month thanks to Hurricane Ike.  I must say that I do not want to go through that again!  I had to go back to patrol during the days of the hurricane and for the first week afterward and pulled 16hr days.  Since then I have been working down in some of the harder hit areas doing search and recovery work.  At least being assigned there we have had emergency power most of the time.

My home was spared for the most part from any major damage but the power was out for 10 days.  The hardest part has been keeping up with my meds and getting decent food.  FEMA has provided us with MRE's but they have way to much sodium and average around 500-700 carbs.  I guess the government isn't too concerned about diabetes.  Fresh meats, fruits and veggies are making their way back into the grocery store but I haven't been able to restock my fridge due to my hours.

I know how bad Ike was when he came ashore, I was on the street when he made landfall.  I hope everyone was spared from his wrath.  I'll be checking in on a regular basis now that my household is back to normal.

You certainly lead an interesting life. But I am glad that a little normalcy has returned. I had my own hurricane around here in my husband having emergency open heart surgery. But he is on the mend also. We are tough aren't we!

I am amazed at the number of carbs that are in the MRE's. If you weren't diabetic before eating those things you will be afterwards. WOW.

I hope things really quiet down for you for a while. Take care and get back to us when you can.
