Numbers Creaping Up

Two hours after eating, I was at 170. Lately they have been 140 and 150 and the highest in morning was 127. I am concerned. Can I pull it back again with diet alone as I am doing now, or once they creep up, they will stay high until I get on medicine again? Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you!
Being a pessimist, I would say no. Being an optimist I would say yes. Please remember diabetes is a progressive disease and it gets worse over time regardless of what you do. But there are ways of delaying this. One is increasing your exercise and watching very closely what you are eating and losing 5-10% of your body weight if you are over weight. More than anything else I want you to understand that you are not a failure if you need medicine support and I know this is a common feeling. Been there, done that myself!
What I think you need to do now is schedule a visit with your doctor. Take a blood sugar log and food log with you. Make sure you write down any exercise that you get. Request that your lab work be done including an A1C and see what your doctor recommends. Then get back to us and tell us what the plan is for you.
Good luck and I am anxiously waiting to hear what is suggested for you.
I'm sorry to hear you too Cheryl. Well, like Mary Frances said, it is a progressive disease which isn't good to hear, but it is what it is. I am only 47 so with the progression, I will be in trouble a lot earlier than the older folks. This morning it was 119 so I was sort of happy about that. I did 10 minutes of exercise before bed, I don't know if that helps or not. That's the hard part, when you hardly eat any carbs and they still rise. Do you take any medicines or insulin right now? Do you feel hungry a lot? If I cut down carbs, I feel real hungry. Thanks for your post.
Debbie
Thanks so much Mary Francis; you are a great help as always. That's true, it is progressive and that is what worries me. I am only 47. I went low before with my numbers when I lost a lot of weight so I ate more carbs. Now I am in that mode and have to get carb limit down and watch what I eat. I lost 55 pounds before, but gained 20 back so I really have to be careful. I haven't been exercise too much lately either. But in the last two weeks, I have been getting better. I did just about 10 minutes of exercise last night and today at 10, when I got up, my numbers were at 119 which isn't too bad. We have a lot of stresses here at my home, which now I need the exercise even more. My husband is out of job and my daughter keeps having epileptal seizures all through the night which keep her and us awake, plus she has behavioral issues on top of that so I have to watch. DH had a job interview and we are praying he gets the job. If he does, in a month he'll have insurance. I saw my doctor in August, but couldn't afford the A1C. I am hoping to get there in November for the A1C and to see what she wants to do. She said to call if I get up above 140 but I don't know if she means one time or consistently at 140. And I know my husband will tell me that my numbers are going up because of the way I am eating (some chocolate). Thanks as always for your help.
Debbie
No medication or insulin.
