Worry about Lows?

so Metformin is typically the first drug one is put on if they are going to be put on anything?
I do wake up w/fine levels, however --- It is what I eat that directly has probs.......
Anyway - my Endo says I shouldn't not worry about getting lows --- unless they are less than 60 = does that sound right? And I've never known my lows to be lower than 80something......
But - I worry sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the nite --- I know it is low - and I am hungry --- If I don't get up to eat - is that ok?

Especially if you're still working to get things under control, "normal" can feel "low" because you're used to it being high much of the time. I've been on metformin for two years now and I haven't had any lows caused by the medication (not eating enough carbs on occasion is another matter - a lovely dinner of steamed broccoli, grilled fish, and tossed salad with vinegar and oil dressing is NOT enough carbs LOL)

That kind of makes sense - if your body senses that there's not enough food coming in, the liver probably goes into high gear pumping out the glucose reserves (famine can lead to a stress reaction) - it just doesn't know when to quit.
That's related to why stress can cause glucose to jump - in a fight or flight situation, your muscles need a quick jolt of energy aka glucose in order to run or defend/attack. And, if it truly is a fight or flight situation, it probably would work itself out. But, most of our stresses don't include lots of muscle work - things like sick spouses, financial woes, and so on usually include lots more sitting and not much running. So the glucose is roaming around the blood stream going "where's the emergency?"
