Have you ever had a vehicle in for repairs, and get that phone message saying to call them back asap? And as you hear it you get a sinking feeling in your tummy? YEP YEP YEP!!!
Well after van died on me several times getting it the whole distance to work(3 blocks) including one point when i called boss and repair place to say it was dead, but then it did catch and i was able to get it the rest of the way to work site. It was about 25-30 below with windchill so I feared I would need to call cab to get the rest of the distance around the block!!
So i did paperwork at office quick and then took it to repair place. early this afternoon i got that dreaded message! Now they were saying that the one head was getting anti freeze into the engine!! It would take at least a couple more days before I could get it back!! Mind you i sat all weekend without getting any errands done or exercise! When i asked if they meant the engine had to be replaced they said probably not, but hedged around how and why it happened. They did bring my handicap sticker to me at my work place! I seriously suspect they did something that caused the head to crack. Am hoping they will do the honorable thing and pay for that repair but who knows!!
Anyway I guess I was too bad this year to get a good Xmas present. ACTUALLY I think I would prefer a lump of coal to this fiasco!!!
Then even more fun, tried to call and rent a car and the only place bringing them to my location has no cars!!

In another life, before Veterinary Medicine, DH was a tank mechanic, jeeps, trucks, anything with wheels or tracks.

Actually the antifreeze would not get into the engine that way as far as I know. I have talked to them this am...
Aw, this is terrible to have all this happen right at Christmas time....I hope you don't have far to go for Xmas day.
Nancy,
I hope your sister can come to see you for Christmas, otherwise it will be pretty lonesome for you with no car and no way to get anywhere. Do you have to work the day after Christmas? Out here many gavernment workers get that day off. The non-profit that I work for has the day off but I might go in to work when it is quiet! I have huge reports that are due on Janaury 6th and this would be a good way to get caught up.
Happy Holidays!
It was a lonely but peaceful Christmas.
Nancy,
I hope things are going better for you. I wonder if you could have blown up your engine without the head gasket. I am not a mechanic in anyway but that seems really wierd to me that you would lose the whole head gasket.
Luckily as soon as I saw weird stuff on the dash board, i basically drove it home and parked it until the next monday when i went the 3 blocks to office and then straight to the repair place! had i taken it someplace else in disgust it would likely have run another $1200-1400!!
right now it is running right, no weird sounds and no weird things on the dash board!!
Nancy,
Maybe you have finally turned the corner and 2009 will be a better year. Good Luck and Happy New Years!
AT LEAST I can say that this year IS starting with my VAN RUNNING!!! After the fun the last couple weeks that seems like an accomplishment!!!
I also have to do something to the driveway because we got some freezing icy junk here before one of the last few heavy snows, and so the driveway has some nasty spots on it.
Nancy,
Does that mean that you can retire early if you need or want to? It is bad being the only one with institutional memory.
Now that you own the house is it possible for you to get your own washer and dryer so that you don't have to lug the laundry baskets?
