My mom is border line diabetic and so far has been able to control it with her diet a friend of hers is diabetic told her that if she ate something and her sugar level got to high she could take a little lemon juice to lower her level. We are wondering if this is really ok to do. does anyone know and has anyone ever heard of this. She tried it one day when they had to eat out and it did bring her sugar level down to a normal level. but we are worried about if its really ok to do on occoasion. since she is still learning what things raise her levels. thanks for th help

I know some do have a decent amount of fiber but have also seen a lot that have way too little. I think some of the ones with low fiber are also Quaker ones.

Right some do have low fiber but this one specifically says high fiber on the box and lists 10g fiber per packet.

Lynn,

This effectively becomes 23 grams of carbs. Remember when you add milk to it that you increase the carbs: 7 for 1/2 and 14 for a full cup of milk. Therefore this fits into the 30 grams of carbs for breakfast. But be careful what else you add to it or soon you could be eating 45-60 grams of carbs.

According to the FDA, you subtract the fiber carbs from the carb when there are 5 or more grams.

I don't add milk to my oatmeal...I just eat the oatmeal.

What do you use for protein? You need about 1 ounce of protein to help moderate the absorption of the carbohydrates? Otherwise this will quickly raise your blood sugar.
